Heading to class

God I'm gonna get so much hate for this (not that I'm not used to it), but I've actually been toying for a while the idea of making my three favorite Equestria Girls characters in my own style and with some of the redesigns I'd proposed when I was actually drawing them two years ago. I actually ran some sketches past a few friends, and while they said they were good, they reminded me that I'd get so many death threats for trying it, so I decided I didn't want the aggro.

But here they are now!

Wow, it's been over two years since I last drew any Equestria Girls related stuff, but seeing as this month it's the 3rd anniversary of the original Equestria Girls film, I was feeling in somewhat nostalgic. In fact I owe Equestria Girls' beautiful animation style, it's witty humour and really fun story for getting me back into drawing, kick-starting my inspiration to write stories and create comics, and ended the creative block that had been getting me down for about two years. It also introduced me to some really fun and interesting people (and some not so interesting people but who cares about them?), some of whom I'm really glad to still know to this day!

I remember clearly when the film came out on June 16th, 2013, I was off to film a steam train and had been checking IMDB on and off all day to see what its initial rating was cos I was pretty hyped to see it myself and was really hoping it would be a half-decent film rather than just some cheap cop-out. First rating I saw, 2.2/10! I thought to myself "Oh no! It's gonna be like some of those other TV Show to Movie movies! Horrible jokes, terrible story, boring characters! Whoa is me!" The next day though it had risen, this time to 9.3/10! I will admit, Equestria Girls is a good movie, but it's certainly not a 9* movie! Eventually it leveled out to about the 6/10 rating it has now, not bad, I'd personally give it a little higher (I ended up giving it an 8/10).

Still, Equestria Girls, take the My Little Pony and its reputation aspect out of it, it's still a good movie and is really fun to watch. I did love the human interpretations of these characters and the everyday situations they were put in at school, which is why I loved to satirize it with my own comics, making extraordinary out of the ordinary.
